Black Knights Take Down Navy, 3-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team outlasted Navy on Friday night for a 3-1 victory.

The Black Knights took a 2-0 lead in the game, but Navy was able to muscle the third away to keep the match alive. Army responded and took a 24-15 lead in the fourth. Navy attempted to rally, but the Black Knights clinched the match in the end off of an error by the Midshipmen.
As a team, Army held an advantage in blocks (18-11), digs (81-78) and tied in kills (41-41).Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Army 25, Navy 22)
- The Black Knights and Midshipmen fought through 13 tie scores in the first set.
- Allie Strong led Army with seven kills in the set and Courtney Horace added seven digs.
- The Cadets only had one block, but it counted as it was the set clinching point by Emmy Barnhorst and Lisa Sullivan.
SECOND SET (Army 25, Navy 19)
- The second set was an exciting one for the Black Knights.
- Army went on an 8-1 run to take a 13-7 lead early on. Sullivan earned four points in a row to aid in the scoring streak.
- The Cadets boasted seven blocks in the set with Sullivan leading the way with four total, while Barnhorst chipped in three.
THIRD SET (Navy 25, Army 20)
- Navy took an early lead in the set and Army couldn't make up the points in the end.
- Ana Oglivie was all over the place in the set with 11 digs.
- Brianna Hartman came off the bench to lead the team with four kills.
FOURTH SET (Army 25, Navy 19)
- The Black Knights led for the entire fourth set to clinch the match.
- Strong posted three kills and Sullivan added two.
- What was most impressive were the eight team blocks.
- Monica Eckford tallied four block assists as Barnhorst and Sullivan added three each.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Oglivie had an outstanding performance on the night with 21 digs, four assists and a service ace.
- Nikki Lum and Hannah Presley split time leading the offense and tallied a combined 33 assists.
- Strong led the team with 13 kills and Sullivan followed with nine.
- Barnhorst had a team-leading eight total blocks in the game, while Sullivan and Eckford chipped in seven each.
- The 18 team blocks were a season-high for Army in Patriot League play.
- The Cadets are now riding a three-game winning streak.Â
