Army Falls to Loyola in Five Sets

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Army West Point volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Loyola on the road Friday night.

The Black Knights started strong with a 2-0 lead in the match, but the Greyhounds fought back to claim the final three sets and the match.

Allie Strong and Nikki Lum posted double-doubles in the match, while Ana Oglivie notched a career-high 38 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Army 25, Loyola 19)
- The Greyhounds leapt ahead to a 9-3 advantage in the first, but the Black Knights charged a comeback to claim the set.
- Strong tied the set at 11-11 when she recorded a dig off a hard kill by Loyola. The ball soared back over the net and landed just inside the court for the point.
- She led the team with seven points in the set off six kills and a solo block.
SECOND SET (Army 25, Loyola 22)
- The Black Knights continued to excel in the second set.
- Emmy Barnhorst tallied 8.5 points in the set fueled off of six kills and three blocks.
THIRD SET (Loyola 25, Army 21)
- Loyola controlled a majority of the third set with a .235-.136 edge in hitting percentage.
FOURTH SET (Loyola 29, Army 27)
- The Black Knights and Greyhounds fought to extra points in the fourth set.
- Army tallied three points in a row to tie the set at 25-all, but Loyola rallied back to force a fifth with a 29-27 advantage.
FIFTH SET (Loyola 15, Army 9)
- Loyola shined in the fifth set beating Army out in mostly every scoring category.
- The Greyhounds tallied an advantage in kills (9-7), hitting percentage (.318-125) and blocks (3-1).
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Strong played arguably her best game of the season so far with 20 kills, 21 digs and two total blocks for a team-leading 22 points.
- It was Strong's 12th career double-double performance.
- Barnhorst was also in double-digits in kills with 16.
- The freshman posted six total blocks on the night.
- Oglivie boasted a career-high 38 digs in the game and aided in five assists, while recording two service aces.
- Lum notched her ninth double-double of the year as she contributed 27 assists and 14 digs.
