Black Knights Battle to Draw in Bean Town
October 17, 2018 | Women's Soccer
BOSTON – A 69th-minute tally by sophomore Morgan Walsh allowed the Army West Point women's soccer team to pick up a crucial point with a 1-1 tie at Boston University on Wednesday evening.
Despite being outshot 27-2 in the contest, the Black Knights halted their season-long three-game losing skid and moved to 6-4-6 and 2-3-2 in league play. The Terriers, who saw their six-game winning streak snapped, move to 7-7-3 overall and 5-0-2 against Patriot League foes.
The home side managed to break the scoreless draw in the 23rd minute when Taylor Kofton was the beneficiary of a set play off a corner kick by Anna Heilferty.
After regrouping at halftime, however, Army worked its way deep into the BU zone in the middle of the second half. Senior Lauryn Westman dribbled down the left side of the box before slotting a pass to Nikiay Comer in the middle of the area. The Bradenton, Fla., native flicked the ball back to the penalty spot where Walsh rocketed a shot past the BU keeper with 21:42 remaining in the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia turned in one of her top performances of the season, making nine saves for the third time this season.
