O'Connell Added to Women's Lacrosse Staff

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point Noto Family Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Skiera announced the addition of Carly O'Connell to her staff as an assistant coach on Monday afternoon.
"We are super fortunate to be heading into this year with Carly on our staff," Skiera said. "She is an ambitious young coach on the rise. She has an unbelievable work ethic paired with a great knowledge of lacrosse and team building. Her passion for the sport is contagious when you watch her coach and see her play professionally. Carly works extremely hard to excel at everything she does which completely syncs with our ethos and standard of excellence here at West Point."
O'Connell comes to West Point after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at UMass-Lowell. In her first year on the staff, she assisted the River Hawks in a six-game turnaround and helped the team win a program-best six straight contests. UMass-Lowell saw a 40-percent increase in goals and points per game and over a 55-percent increase in assists per game with O'Connell serving as the offensive coordinator.
Prior to arriving at UMass-Lowell, O'Connell was a standout midfielder for the women's lacrosse team at Oregon. She was Second Team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as a freshman and sophomore, before being named First Team All-MPSF in her final two seasons with the Ducks.
A four-year starter at Oregon, she helped lead the Ducks to three consecutive MPSF Tournaments from 2014-16. She compiled some of the best numbers in program history and still holds several top-five marks. O'Connell currently ranks first all-time in single season points (71), second in single season draw controls (77) on top of single game draw controls (10). Additionally, she sits third all-time in career points (199) and assists (86), second in draw controls (203) and fifth in caused turnovers (63).
After wrapping up her collegiate playing career in Eugene, Ore., O'Connell was drafted by the Philadelphia Force of the United Women's Lacrosse League.
This past season with the Force, she totaled seven goals, nine assists, 33 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 21 draw controls in five contests.
She also has experience working at the club level, having coached the Revolution Lacrosse Club as well as the 3D Lacrosse Club.
