WEST POINT, N.Y. – Led by Carolyn Bockrath's 16.5-point match, the Army West Point volleyball team defeated Akron, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in convincing fashion.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES

As a team, Army hit .654 in the final set alone and .425 in the match.
Bockrath led the Black Knights for the second straight match and boasted 12 kills on 16 attempts for a .688 hitting percentage.
She also added three service aces in the match and four digs.
Amber Clay tacked on 11 kills and 13 points in the match for Army.
Allie Strong and Rachel Gearon each posted 10.5 points for the Black Knights. Strong recorded seven kills, six digs and three aces, while Gearon had eight kills and 2.5 blocks.
Haven Bethune controlled the offensive efforts once again and recorded 24 assists. Nikki Lum aided 13 helpers in the effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED SET ONE (25-17 Army)

Army jumped ahead of Akron in the first set as Bockrath had a .833 hitting percentage on five kills.
The Black Knights secured the final six points of the set on three aces from Bockrath, two kills from Gearon and a kill from Clay.

HOW IT HAPPENED SET TWO (25-14 ARMY)

The Black Knights started the second set strong with two straight blocks and an ace off the bat.
Bockrath totaled four kills in the set as Clay and Gearon added three.
The set wrapped up with a block assist by Bethune and Bockrath, an ace by Strong and a kill by Clay.

HOW IT HAPPENED SET THREE (25-15 Army)

Army maintained its composure in the third set and led the entire time. There were no tie scores or lead changes in the final set.
Clay was a perfect four-for-four on kills and attempts in the set for a 1.000 hitting percentage.
The Black Knights out-blocked the Zips 3-0 in the final set.

Army will continue at its home tournament with a night match against Providence at 7 p.m.
