August 27, 2017 | Women's Soccer
HAMDEN, Conn. – Two goals in the first 15 minutes of the match was the difference for Army West Point women's soccer at Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon.
The Black Knights moved to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improved to 2-1-0.
Quinnipiac's first goal came in the seventh minute off the foot of Madison Morowiec and added some insurance when Al Pelletier scored in the 13th minute.
After the second goal, however, Army went on the offensive and outshot the Bobcats 15-4 through the final 77:24 in addition to earning an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Senior co-captain Clare Shea and rookie Erynn Johns led Army in shots with four and three, respectively. Senior Lauren McGovern was one of the top offensive threats in the game, contributing to multiple chances in the attacking third. The best of those chances came in the 38th minute, when she sent Brianna Nicholas in one-on-one with the keeper, who misfired wide of the net.
Army's attack revved back up in the 61st minute when Madison McGinn found McGovern deep inside the Quinnipiac box, but the defense quickly swarmed to her before she could get a look at goal.
