WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After three days of tough competition, senior Peter Kim from the Army West Point golf team wrapped up his season at the NCAA Regionals on Wednesday.
Â
Kim finished the event scratching 75-75-72 -- 222 (+6) over the three-day tournament.
Â
During the final round of 18 holes, Kim played the front nine even with par. Through tough windy conditions he played out the back nine to stay even on the day. The round score of 72 was Kim's best finish in the competition and catapulted him from being tied for 38th to being tied for 17th.
Â
The top five teams that will advance to the NCAA Championships were No. 17 UNLV (872, +8), No. 20 Auburn (875, +11), No. 8 Illinois (878, +14), No. 44 New Mexico (880, +16) and No. 38 Purdue (882, +18). The top individual of the tournament was Trent Wallace from Illinois State with a scorecard of 218 (+1).
COACHES CORNER:
" Peter competed hard this week, but came up a few shots short of advancing to the NCAA Championships. He played well the first two rounds and put together a great final round to move up 21 sports to finish tied for 17th. He 72 was one of the better rounds on the day with winds blowing up to 40 mph. Peter has been the backbone of our program this season with winning twice and multiple top five finishes. He is going to be missed and we thank him for his future service and commitment and passion for Army golf."
