Allen Adds Academic All-Patriot League Honors
May 10, 2017 | Women's Tennis
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore Melanie Allen of the Army West Point women's tennis team was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Allen, who was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last season, earned her first academic all-league distinction. She was one of three sophomores to be recognized, along with Boston University's Remi Ramos, who was named the Corvias Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete, and Josie Rogers of Navy.
The Cape Coral, Fla., native sports a 3.698 GPA as a Psychology major and has been a member of the Dean's List in each of her five semesters at West Point. Allen has also received the Superintendent's Award for Excellence, which is awarded for being in the top five percent across all three pillars: academics, athletics and military.
On the court, Allen was named to the first team All-Patriot League after being Army's primary starter at the top flight for both singles and doubles. She compiled a record of 17-10 in singles and 19-9 in doubles as one of only three Black Knights with 15 or more wins in both singles and doubles this season. She finished second on the team in total wins with 36.
