Army Headed to California for NCAA Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team travels to Los Angeles, Calif., to take on No. 5 UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Championships.
Action will kick off Friday at 1 p.m., PT (4 p.m. ET) at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.
The Black Knights finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-6 and 6-1 in Patriot League play. The Bruins enter the tournament with a 19-5 overall record while going 6-0 in the Pac-12. UCLA lost in the finals of the Pac-12 championship to Southern California by a score of 4-3.

SCOUTING UCLA (19-5, 6-0 PAC-12)
During the Pac-12 Championships, the Bruin's faced off against Stanford in the first round. After collecting a quick 4-0 victory they were slated to face Southern California. In doubles the seventh-ranked duo of Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu were the lone team to get a victory giving the Trojan's a quick 1-0 lead. Redlicki would be joined by Logan Staggs, Maime Cressy to bring the score to 3-3. It came down to the match on the No. 1 court. After splitting the first two set the Bruins would eventually fall 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 giving Southern California the win.
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
This will be the second year in a row that Army has participated in the NCAA tournament. Last year, the Black Knights traveled to Cal. Berkeley to take on the Golden Bears. Army fell to Cal 4-0. This will mark the third time Army has played in the state of California in the postseason, previously playing Cal in 2016 and Stanford in 2011.
UP NEXT: The winner of the Army UCLA match will take on the winner of Ole Miss and UC Santa Barbra. That match will take place earlier in the day at 1 p.m. Pacific time.

- Army defeated Navy 4-2 to secure the Patriot League title for the second year in a row.
- In doubles action, Sam Lampman and Gregory Shannon were the lone pair to get a doubles victory, taking down Navy 6-3.
- In singles, David Mitchell collected a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 flight, with Michael Nguyen securing a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position.
- Grant Riechmann fell to Greg Durham to tie the match back at 2-2.
- First-year Myles Conlin gave the lead back to the Black Knights collecting a 6-4 straight set win at the No. 5 flight.
- Senior captain Sam Lampman secured the match earning a come from behind 6-2, 7-5 win over Navy's Aries Wong.
- Army also collected a slew of post season awards. Nguyen was named the Patriot League Player of the Year. Head coach Jim Poling was named coach of the year and the doubles team of Nguyen and Riechmann earned doubles team of the year.
