Army Finishes Season on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team finished out its season Saturday with a 20-10 setback to Loyola who is undefeated in the league. Prior to the game, the Black Knights honor seniors Connor McCarty, Erin Jollota and Shelby Lindsay for senior day.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

The Black Knights were led by Samantha Stewart who racked up three goals. Amy Johnston, Kiersten Spencer and Kelsea Krauss all netted two apiece, while Rilee Scott added one.
Jollota posted two assists in the contests for the Black Knights and Rachel Hornick added one as well.
Stewart stood out on the draw for Army with seven controls and added three ground balls. Johnston who added three draw controls in the game as Spencer had two ground balls.
Maddie Burns made 10 saves in the game.
Army held a 16-15 advantage over the Greyhounds in draw controls and are just the third league team to accomplish that feat this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the third consecutive game, the Black Knights scored the first goal of the contest. Army capitalized on early free position chances to go up 2-0 on the Greyhounds who are undefeated in the league.
Johnston notched goal number one for the Cadets 54 seconds into the game. Scott followed suit when Hornick gave up her 8-meter chance with a pass low to Scott who beat the Loyola goalie high.
The Greyhounds kicked it into high gear though and went on a 5-0 run to take the lead.
Army responded with two more to bring it to the game within one. Stewart kicked off the run with a coast-to-coast clear and goal before Jollota connected with Spencer who shot high right.
Loyola then answered with a 4-1 run. Three of the Greyhounds' goals were free positions. Krauss snuck in an Army goal during the run on a crease rolling play with Jollota.
Johnston closed-out the half the same way she started it – with a free position goal, but this time there were just three seconds on the clock.
Loyola took control of the game in the second half with an 8-3 edge in goals.
Krauss and Stewart added free position goals in the mix, while Spencer scored off a reset from the 12-meter arc.
