Long Ball, Errors Plague Army Against Holy Cross

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army softball team was swept in its doubleheader against Holy Cross, dropping 4-2 and 5-2 decisions on Sunday at the Army Softball Complex.
The Black Knights dropped to 22-11 on the season and 4-2 in the Patriot League, while the Crusaders improved to 5-16 overall and 2-1 in league play.

- Senior co-captain Alee Rashenskas became the seventh player in program history to record 200 career hits with a single to left field in the sixth inning of game two.
- Rashenskas recorded her team-best seventh multi-hit game of the season in the series finale.
- Freshman Lacey Swafford became the fourth Black Knight this season to reach 25 hits.
- Swafford and Ashley Yoo stretched their hitting streaks to six games, the longest active streak on the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- Holy Cross jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a solo home run by Emily Krisanda.
- Army responded in the bottom half of the opening frame with an RBI single from freshman Katie Ontiveros.
- The Crusaders reclaimed their lead in the third inning with an RBI singles from Taylor Wahler. Wahler added a two-run shot in the fifth inning to stretch the Holy Cross lead to 4-1.
- The Black Knights would scratch across one more run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a pair of wild pitches.
- The inning started with an Ashley Yoo single and a Lacey Swafford walk before those miscues allowed Yoo to score.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- Army scored the game's opening run for the first time this series after an Emily Ballesteros sac fly to left scored Ashley Yoo to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead.
- The Crusaders answered in the second inning, scoring on an error.
- The Black Knights threatened in the third inning with a double to right center with Gladys Esparza-Gallegos on first. The junior infielder got too greedy, however, and was thrown out at home on a perfect relay by Holy Cross.
- Army loaded the bases in the following inning to keep the pressure on, but was once again unable to break the 1-1 tie.
- Holy Cross as able to break the stalemate in the top of the sixth as three straight hits to start the frame was capped with a two-run double by Krisanda.
- The Crusaders added two more in the seventh on a groundout and a single to capitalize on an error.
- Army was not going to go quietly as it put runners on second and third after one-out hits by Lacey Swafford and Ballesteros.
- An RBI groundout by Kennedy Harrison brought home the pinch runner, Tyler McKinney to cut the lead to 5-2 before the Crusaders were able to close out the game.

- The Black Knights conclude their five-game home stand against Hartford with a Wednesday doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
