FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Army West Point softball team was unable to overcome an early four-run deficit as it fell to Fairfield, 5-2, Wednesday at Alumni Softball Field.

The Black Knights dropped to 27-12 on the season, while the Stags improved to 14-20 overall.

- The Black Knights scored two runs on eight hits and committed two errors, while the Stags plated five runs on nine hits and no errors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After working around a trio of hits by Army in the first two innings, Fairfield was able to get on the board first in the home half of the second.
- A one-out single to right plated two for Amanda Ulzheimer to give the Stags an early lead.
- A fielder's choice and sacrifice fly allowed Fairfield to double its lead the following inning to 4-0.
- The Black Knights responded in the fourth inning when Alee Rashenskas singles to right, driving in Tyler McKinney who pinch ran for Katie Ontiveros after she singled.
- Fairfield regained its four-run cushion after scoring on Army's second error of the game in the bottom of the frame.
- Army's best scoring chance of the game came in the sixth inning when it had bases loaded and no outs. Ontiveros began the inning with a walk, followed by singles from Emily Gray and Kennedy Harrison.
- Madison Roberts settled down after that, however, only allowing a run on a walk to Maddie Kim.
