Black Knights Welcome Mercyhurst for Quarterfinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the second straight season, the Army West Point hockey team will participate in the Atlantic Hockey Association Quarterfinals. The No. 3 Black Knights welcome back No. 7 Mercyhurst this weekend for the Atlantic Hockey Association Quarterfinals. The best-of-three series will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary). The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. for all contests.

THIS WEEK: ATLANTIC HOCKEY QUARTERFINALS
- The Black Knights and Lakers faced each other at Tate Rink in early January and split the weekend.
- Mercyhurst claimed game one by a score of 3-1, before the Cadets bounced back for a 4-1 win on Saturday night.
- The winner of the quarterfinal series will advance to the semifinals of the AHA Tournament in Rochester, N.Y., on Mar. 17.
- Fans can follow the games in a variety of ways including the AtlanticHockey.TV stream. Those who wish to follow the video feed must purchase a post-season package of $39, or single-game viewings for $12 each. The regular season packages do not roll over.
- Army's flagship radio stations 1260 WBNR-AM and 1420 WLNA-AM will also air the action each night. Friday night's game will only be available 1420 due to the women's basketball semifinal game against Navy airing on 1260.

LAST WEEK: FIRST-ROUND BYE
- After posting a 17-12-5 overall record and a 15-10-3 mark in Atlantic Hockey contests, the Army hockey team earned a first-round bye in the AHA Tournament.
- The Black Knights also gained home-ice advantage for the AHA Quarterfinals and waited to learn their opponent on Sunday night.
- The 11-seed Niagara upset defending AHA Champion RIT in a three-game series. This altered the re-seeding process and set up Mercyhurst's trip to West Point for the second time this season
- Army has made waves in series' that were previously one-sided up until this year.
- The Black Knights picked up their first win in 10 tries over Air Force in November and snapped a 25-game unbeaten streak by Mercyhurst.
- Army has also garnered at least one point from all but two series this season and posted five shutouts.
SEASON LEADERS
- The Black Knights have spread the wealth in the offensive zone this season as 14 players have tallied double-digit points.
- Conor Andrle leads the crew with 24 on 13 goals and 11 assists. Zach Evancho also boasts points in the 20's on 11 goals and nine helpers.
- Brendan Soucie boasts three contests with more than one goal, and netted a hat-trick back in December.
- Taylor Maruya has been a solid play maker for Army and has notched two games with three assists.
- Andrle leads the team with six multi-point games, while Evancho has five with Alex Wilkinson and Tyler Pham posting four each.
- In their three-year careers, Andrle and Pham both possess 15 multi-point performances.
ALL-ROOKIE TEAM
- Freshmen Dominic Franco and Wilkinson were both named to the AHA All-Rookie Team due to their outstanding performances on the ice throughout the 2016-17 season.
- Army was the only school with two members on the squad. Franco boasts three multi-point games this season with a +10 line.
- Wilkinson capped-off the season with four multi-point contests and added 27 blocks.
- Overall, the Army freshmen class has contributed the most points of any class this season.
- The rookies as a whole boast a team-leading 37 goals and 45 assists for 82 points.
LAST TIME OUT
- After scoring three unanswered goals, the Black Knights topped the Lakers, 4-1, in game two of the series to snap Mercyhurst's 25-game unbeaten streak.
- It was head coach Brian Riley's first win against his son Jack Riley who is a captain on the Lakers' squad.
- Franco netted his second shorthanded goal of his career in the game, while Dalton MacAfee, Trevor Fidler and Brendan Soucie were also goal scorers on the night.
- Parker Gahagen picked up the win after making 30 saves.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
- The Lakers enter the weekend with a 14-18-4 record. They defeated AIC in last weekend's opening round by scores of 4-3 and 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinal round.
- Derek Barach leads the team in points with 36 on nine goals and 27 assists. He is third in the league in assists per game at 0.75.
- Jon Charbonneau leads the team with 15 goals, while Les Lancaster has added 19 assists.
- Jack Riley has amassed 17 points on eight goals and nine assists.
- Brandon Wildung has played in all 22 games for the Lakers this season, picking up nine wins, two shutouts and a save percentage of .911.
- He made a career-high 48 saves in game one of the Army-Mercyhurst series earlier this year.
