WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman infielder Emily Ballesteros of the Army West Point softball team brought home her second straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Ballesteros went 7-for-15 (.467 avg.) at the plate during Army's first five games of Spring Break in Clearwater, Fla., while scoring five runs and driving in six. She has also drawn three walks to earn an OBP of .579.
The Chino Hills, Calif., native is currently on a 13-game hitting streak and leads the Black Knights in hits (20), doubles (five), RBI (13), total bases (27), multi-hit games (five) and multi-RBI games (three).
Ballesteros garnered rookie of the week recognition for her performance at George Mason's Patriot Classic last week. This is the third-consecutive week a cadet-athlete has been named the league's rookie of the week as Amelia Trotter was recognized after Eastern Michigan's Madeira Beach Invitational on Feb. 28.
The Black Knights will return to action on Wednesday as they will face Indiana State at 11 a.m., and Monmouth at 1 p.m.
