Army Splits Saturday Doubleheader

EMERSON, Ga. – The Army West Point baseball team finished 1-1 on the day after a doubleheader with Georgia State and Bowling Green.
The Black Knights took the nightcap in shutout fashion handing the Falcons a 5-0 loss after the Cadets had dropped their opener to the Panthers, 3-0.
Senior Kris Lindner finished 3-for-7 on the day with two doubles and two RBI. Jon Rosoff chipped in three hits, two runs, one double and two RBI in his eight at bats, while Matt Hudgins and John McCarthy added two hits each.
Cam Opp got the starting nod in Game 2 and pitched a very impressive 6.0 innings. The sophomore allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out six. Sam Messina also assisted on the shutout, coming in to finish the final 3.0 innings. The Phoenix, Ariz., native gave up one hit during his time on the mound and fanned a career-high five batters.
In Game 1, Tyler Giovinco pitched 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs. Blake Walters and Jacob Carte closed out the final 3.2 innings, giving up a combined four hits.
Army's game against Bowling Green marked the Black Knights' first blanking of the season.

- McCarthy made a great diving catch in the bottom of the sixth to snag the first out of the inning.
- Anfernee Crompton followed that up in the seventh with an impressive grab on the leadoff batter after a line drive.

- Opp made his second career start. His first start was last season in Army's season finale at Hartford on May 7.Opp had short notice to get ready as Daniel Gibbons was scratched as Army's original starter.
