WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team returns to Tate Rink this Friday and Saturday for a two-game series with Niagara on Friday and Saturday.

- The Purple Eagles are the only Atlantic Hockey team that the Black Knights have not faced this season.
- These home games begin after a four-game road trip gauntlet where Army faced the top ranked teams in the league, Canisius and Air Force.
- Saturday night's game will be broadcasted across New York State via Time Warner Cable. It also marks the House of Blues game presented by St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
- After the Feb. 11 game, fans can stick around and Skate with the Black Knights for one of the final times this season. If you want to participate, just bring your skates to the game. The team will be handy to help guide you around the ice and to sign autographs.
LAST WEEK: DOWNED BY CANISIUS
- Army picked up one point last weekend while facing No. 1 Canisius. After a 4-0 shutout on Friday, the Black Knights bounced back to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
- Army went up 1-0 with five minutes remaining in the first period with a slapshot goal by Alex Wilkinson. He was assisted by his defensive partner Dalton MacAfee and classmate Michael Wilson.
- Dominic Franco padded the Cadets' lead 37 seconds into the second frame after captain Ryan Nick stole the puck and fed it to Franco for the breakaway.
- The Griffs did not remain quiet however and netted a power play goal with 24 seconds left in the second. They tied the game with five minutes left in the third period.
- Parker Gahagen recorded a remarkable 70 saves over the two games.
PARKER GAHOBEY
- Senior goaltender Gahagen has been announced as a nominee for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award.
- This season he tallied five shutouts to rank him first in the nation in that category. The five also place him second in Army's single-season lore, and ties him for first all-time in Atlantic Hockey history.
- Gahagen approaches his 100th career start at Army and boasts a total of 2,929 career saves, just 84 shy of the Academy record.
- He has posted nine shutouts to tie him for second in program history and has the third best goals against average at 2.40. Fans can vote once a day, every day at hobeybaker.com/vote.
RACE TO THE TOP
- The Black Knights are one of multiple teams vying for the top spots in Atlantic Hockey standings.
- The Griffs are tops in the league with 33 points, followed closely by Air Force (32).
- Robert Morris has 26 points, while Army boasts 24 to tie with Mercyhurst and Holy Cross.
- Bentley and RIT have also cracked the 20-point mark so far this season.
- The top five teams will receive first-round byes for the AHA Tournament which begins the first weekend of March.
DEFENSIVE POINTS
- The Black Knights boast an impressive defensive unit. During last weekend's games, the d-men produced the most points on a goal and two assists.
- Alex Wilkinson netted the goal, while Dalton MacAfee and Ryan Nick both had assists on Saturday.
- This season, Wilkinson is tied for fifth on the team in points with 12. He has posted 10 assists and two goals, while MacAfee trails just behind with nine points off five goals and four assists.
- MacAfee leads the team in blocked shots (38) and is followed by Nick (35), Mike Preston (35) and Nick DeCenzo (34).
SCOUTING NIAGARA
- The Purple Eagles enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-22-3 and an AHA mark of 3-17-2 with eight points.
- Niagara has defeated Mercyhurst (5-4), Sacred Heart (4-0) and Bentley (3-1), while tying Holy Cross (4-4 OT), RPI (3-3 OT) and AIC (0-0 OT).
- Kris Spriggs leads the Purple Eagles with 13 points and has netted the most goals on the team with seven along with Johnny Curran. Noah Delmas has amassed a team-high 12 assists this year.
- Jackson Teichroeb and Guillaume Therien have split time in net this year for Niagara.
- Therien has a team-leading .884 save percentage, while Teichroeb leads with a goals against average of 4.07.
