- Army left seven runners on base, while Duke stranded six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the bottom of the third. Army recorded the first two outs of the inning but back-to-back doubles handed the Blue Devils the early 1-0 edge.
- The two teams' pitchers then took over for the next two innings as no batter reached base in the fourth and fifth.
- The home team tacked on two more runs in the sixth to create a 3-0 gap between the teams.
- Army would not go away though, earning one run back in the top of the seventh. Dickerson started the inning singling up the middle. After a Duke pitching change, Hudgins followed things up with a single through the right side to place runners on first and second. Lindner then brought Dickerson home on the ensuing at bat with a double to right center for what would be the Black Knights' lone run of the game.
- Duke tallied that run back in the bottom half to increase its lead back to three runs at 4-1 before scoring an insurance run in the eighth to ultimately secure the win.
