DIRECTOR OF TRACK AND FIELD/ CROSS COUNTRY MIKE SMITH'S COMMENTS:
"There are always ups and downs at a championship meet and we had some of both today. Maybe the biggest take away for me was how good our plebe women really are. The majority of our scoring is coming from plebes and they are not just scoring small points they are right in the hunt to win and in some cases they are bringing home titles. Kamryn and Briyah did what they have done all year in dominating the weight throw. While it was something that we expected you can't really take anything for granted at a championship, so I was really proud of the way those two handled themselves out there and they just answered the challenge. I thought we would advance a little better in the sprints and that will hurt out overall total. Calli McMullen was outstanding in both sprint races. She stands to score pretty well in both the 60 meter dash and the 200-meter dash tomorrow. I think she forgot that she is a plebe. She just went out there and ran away from people. Lynne Mooradian did the same thing. She showed no ill effects from yesterday's pentathlon. I was really impressed with her hurdle race in equaling her personal best. Our fifth place women's 4x800 meter really was made up of three plebes and a yearling and that broke the school record that we set at this meet last year. There was also Bethany Nunnery in the 5000-meter run. For all intents and purposes this was her first 5k. So, for her to go out and run as well as she did was really impressive. She is a great competitor and really responds to the challenge. We need more of the same tomorrow if we hope to improve on last year's fourth place finish."
