Black Knights Drop Doubleheader at #3 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Army West Point baseball team fell twice at the No. 3 team in the nation on Saturday.
The Black Knights dropped the doubleheader to LSU by a 9-0 and 6-0 decision and dip to 0-3 on the early 2017 campaign.
Junior John McCarthy led the way for Army going 2-for-6 on the day. Jacob Hurtubise, John McKenna and Josh White each added a hit in the twin bill as well.
Matt Ball pitched 4.1 innings in Game 1, allowing five hits and seven runs, six earned. Sophomores Cam Opp and Blake Walters came in for relief going 0.2 and 1.0 innings, respectively. Opp gave up one hit and two runs, one of which that was earned, while Walters posted a clean sheet.
In Game 2, Tyler Giovinco went 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing nine hits and six earned runs. Rookie Logan Smith closed out the final inning giving up just two hits in his first collegiate debut.

• The Black Knights had three errors and two stolen bases in Game 1.
