Women’s Basketball Earns Road Win at American

WASHINGTON – The Army West Point women's basketball team collected its fourth straight victory with a 68-57 Patriot League win over American on Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena.
Army builds its longest winning streak in Patriot League play this season with its fourth consecutive win and moves to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the conference, while American falls to 11-13 and 8-5.
Junior Daizjah Morris and sophomore Madison Hovren each finished with 15 points to lead Army, while Hovren added eight rebounds and Morris went 3-for-4 from deep. Freshman Libby Tacka added a career-best 11 points and also shot 3-of-4 from three-point range, and junior Destinee Morris chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Junior Aliyah Murray finished with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while classmate Janae McNeal recorded eight points.
Emily Kinneston led American with 20 points and Kaitlyn Lewis contributed 12 points.

- Army used an 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter that brought the score from 50-49 to 61-51 by the 3:20 mark. American got back to as close as eight points, but didn't come any closer the rest of the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army controlled a 22-15 lead after the first quarter, thanks to a team-best eight points in the period from Daizjah Morris.
- American trimmed its deficit to three points of two occasions in the second quarter, at 22-19 and 31-28.
- Lewis drilled a three-pointer to bring the Eagles back to a 31-28 deficit with 16 seconds remaining in the opening half before Daizjah Morris hit a jumper with one second remaining to increase the Black Knight lead to five, 33-28, at the break.
- The third quarter saw four ties, with American outscoring Army, 19-17, in the period.
- The Eagles seized their first lead of the afternoon after a lay-up from Lauren Crisler made the score 46-45 with 2:13 left in the third.
- The Black Knights outscored the hosts, 5-1, in the final 1:50 of the frame, including two points from Hovren and three more from Destinee Morris, as Army led, 50-47, entering the fourth quarter.
- Army held an 18-10 advantage in fourth-quarter points to finish off the win.
- Crisler scored on a lay-in with 7:51 left in the contest to make the score 50-49, in favor of Army, but the Cadets built their lead to double figures, 61-51, after an 11-2 run that was capped by a McNeal lay-up with 3:20 on the clock.
- Murray sank a pair of free throws to boost Army's lead to 13, 68-55, with 50 seconds to play before Lewis scored with 31 seconds left to bring the score to 68-57.
