Wake Forest Pulls Away Late to Register Win

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Army West Point men's basketball team dropped a 109-80 decision here Friday night to ACC foe Wake Forest.
Army had a double-digit halftime deficit down to five points on a few different occasions throughout the second half but were never able to overcome the Demon Deacons advantage.
Rookie Alex King converted on a free throw with 9:19 remaining in the game to pull the Black Knights to within 73-68. Unfortunately, the home squad sparked a 26-4 run over four-and-a-half minutes to create a 27-point gap between the teams. The Demon Deacons then maintained that edge throughout the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
Junior Jordan Fox led the team with his fourth 20-plus scoring night after registering 21 in the contest. He finished 5-of-10 from the floor, 5-of-6 from downtown and 6-of-7 at the charity stripe.
Joining him in twin figures was Matt Wilson and King, who both recorded 14 points each. Jacob Kessler led the Cadets with a team-high eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. The junior also matched his career-best in assists with five, which was tops on the team.

- Army finished 43.8 percent (28-of-64) from the floor and 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from long range. The Black Knights also converted on 11 of their 17 attempts from the free throw line.
- Wake Forest closed out their night at 58 percent (20-of-69), 42.1 percent (8-of-19) and 87.5 percent (21-of-24), respectively.
- After failing to score last game, Tommy Funk posted eight points on 3-of-9 shooting from the floor. He chipped in 2-of-3 makes from the free throw line as well.
- King's 3-of-6 buckets from downtown were a career-best.
- The Black Knights were outrebounded at 27-43.
- The Demon Deacons also held the edge on assists at 21-20, points in the paint at 54-28, points off turnovers at 16-7, and second-chance points at 15-12.
- There were six lead changes and three tie scores throughout the game.
- Army held its largest lead at 8-6 following a 3-pointer from Luke Morrison with 17:25 remaining in the opening half.
- The Black Knights held the lead for 1:17, while Wake Forest was in front for 37:25. The game was tied for 1:18.
TURNING POINT
- King pulled Army to within 73-68 with 9:19 left to play after he converted on one of two attempts at the free throw line. Unfortunately, the Demon Deacons responded with a 30-6 run to take a 103-74 advantage with 2:48 remaining. Army was never able to recover.

- The Black Knights wrap up a stretch of three games in seven days as the team travels to St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday amid a grueling eight-game road trip.
- Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
