High Producing Offense Leads Army to 5-5 Draw

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Backed by freshman goalie Jared Dempsey, the Army West Point hockey team skated to a 5-5 tie at Sacred Heart Tuesday night. The Black Knights had three players net their first goals of the season in the high scoring tilt.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Dempsey made his collegiate debut in net garnering 15 saves through 32:14 minutes and allowing no goals.
- The Black Knights saw three players score their first goals of the season in Taylor Maruya, Joe Shecter and Brendan McGuire.
- Dominic Franco and Dalton MacAfee each recorded a goal and an assist for Army.
- It was Franco's fourth multi-point game of the season and eighth of his career, while it was MacAfee's third on the year and fifth in his career in an Army sweater.
- Alex Wilkinson and Michael Wilson both dished out two helpers on the night. Each now have two multi-assist games on the year.
- Cadets notching assists in the game were Tucker DeYoung, Tyler Pham and Mason Krueger.
- Tonight's two power play goals marked the second time this season the Black Knights netted multiple man-up scores in a game. The other came against #19 Air Force.
- Franco netted his first power play goal of his sophomore season marking his fourth overall.
- MacAfee posted a power play goal for the Black Knights once again, the last coming against the Falcons.
- Cole Bruns began the game in net for the Black Knights and made 19 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (2-2)

- Sacred Heart struck first just 4:24 into the game.
- Less than a minute later, Maruya tied things up with a goal of his own. The junior dumped a shot in from the left circle catching Brett Magnus off guard to get the puck past on the opposite post.
- The Black Knights were gifted back-to-back power plays and capitalized when Wilkinson swung the puck around to Pham who fired to find Franco in front to tip it past Magnus.
- The Pioneers netted a tying goal off a faceoff with 3:31 on the board knotting the score 2-2.
PERIOD TWO (5-4 SHU)
- The Black Knights came out firing in the second stanza with two goals in the first two minutes by two members of the senior class.
- Shecter scored first on a rush off movement from Franco and Wilson 20 seconds in.
- At the 18:48 mark McGuire tipped one past Magnus on the doorstep. MacAfee took the initial shot and McGuire's tip sailed in on the netminder's glove side.
- The Pioneers did not stay quiet however and netted three-straight to reclaim a 5-4 lead in a seven minute span.
PERIOD THREE (5-5)
- Dempsey kept the game within one after a diving backhanded save on a bad rebound four minutes into the frame.
- MacAfee netted the tying goal six seconds into an Army power play for the team's second man-up goal of the night. He fired a one-timer from the left point to beat Perry and force overtime.
OVERTIME (5-5)
- For the second time in three games, the Black Knights found themselves in overtime.
- Dempsey made three big saves in the overtime period to keep the game tied up at 5-5.
- Wilkinson had an opportunity for Army, but Perry got a glove on it and deflected it wide.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights will host Canisius Friday (7:05 p.m) and Saturday (4:05 p.m.) at Tate Rink.
