Fox Goes Off For Career High In 94-73 Victory
November 18, 2017 | Men's Basketball
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Junior Jordan Fox led four cadet-athletes in double-digits for the Army West Point men's basketball team as the Black Knights earned a 94-73 road victory at Marist.
Fox finished at 11-of-16 from the floor, 9-of-11 from behind-the-arc and 2-of-2 from the free throw line to register a game and career-high 33 points. Both his field-goals made and 3-point field goals made were career bests. His nine treys also matched the program record, which has now been achieved on four different occasions. It was the first time a Black Knight drained nine since Jarell Brown '08 did so on Jan. 2, 2008 in a game against Brown. Fox closed out his night with five rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Fox's 30-point performance was Army's first since Tanner Plomb '16 tallied 31 in a 103-98 overtime victory against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 28, 2015
Also reaching twin figures was Tommy Funk, Luke Morrison and Matt Wilson. Funk matched his career-best effort with 16 points in the game, while Morrison and Wilson chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Wilson led the team in rebounds with nine, while Jacob Kessler pulled down eight, which was one shy of his career best. Rookie Alex King added seven boards and eight points as well in the victory.
Funk dished out a season-high 10 assists to go along with his team-best two steals.
Marist tied the ballgame at 31-31 with 4:35 remaining in the opening frame following a jumper by Brian Parker. Army answer though with a small 10-4 run to close the half to take a 41-35 edge into the break. The Black Knights scored eight straight during that rally.
The home team cut the deficit to 43-40 two minutes into the second half but another 14-6 run over a little less than a three-minute span handed the Cadets a double digit lead at 57-46.
It was back to a four point ballgame at 66-62 with a little under 10 minutes to play when Marist's Isaiah Lamb converted on a three-point play after being fouled. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Red Foxes would come. Army then sparked an impressive 28-6 run that lasted seven-and-a-half minutes to ultimately put the game out of reach. Fox hit three of his nine treys during that stretch.
