Army Welcomes RIT for Home Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After two Atlantic Hockey series on the road, the Army West Point hockey team will host RIT for its home opener at Tate Rink on Friday and Saturday. Both games are slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. from the banks of the Hudson.

- Army enters the contest atop Atlantic Hockey rankings with a 3-1-0 record both overall and in Atlantic Hockey play.
- The Black Knights will host the Tigers who have gotten off to a rocky start to their season, but are always tough competitors and were the AHA Champions two seasons ago.
- This will be RIT's first league series of the year and Army's third.
- The Black Knights have had a hot start to the season winning three of their four contests which has landed them in first place in AHA standings with six points.
- Last season, the Black Knights had incredible support from fans at home games which led them to their winningest season at Tate Rink since 2007-08.
- It was the seventh time in Tate Rink's history that Army was over .700 on the season.
RIT (0-2-1, 0-0-0 Atlantic Hockey)
- The Tigers are currently seeking their first win of the season with an 0-2-1 record.
- This will be RIT's opening weekend for AHA competition as the Tigers have only faced Northeastern, Union and RPI so far.
- Erik Brown leads the squad with three goals and Abbott Girduckis has a goal and two assists.
- The Tigers are a bit of a wild card between the pipes as they have utilized three goaltenders so far.
- Logan Drackett and Christian Short have both started for RIT and Ian Andriano has played for 10 minutes.
- The team's goals against average is 5.51 as the save percentage resides at .832.
- Two of RIT's seven goals have been on the power play, while allowing five by opponents.
LAST WEEKEND: WEEKEND ROAD SPLIT
- Army's road trip to Robert Morris was rather identical to last season's Friday-Saturday split.
- The Black Knights suffered a 4-2 setback in game one, but bounced back in game two to take a 3-1 victory.
- The Colonials started the weekend with two goals in two minutes to start off the series, while Army ended things with two of its own goals in the final two minutes of play.
- Dominic Franco posted his second three-point game of the season Saturday night as John Zimmerman handed out three assists on the weekend.
- Michael Wilson scored goals in both contests and has netted one in all but one game this season.
ARMS RACE
- The Black Knights boast a balanced offense with eight players behind Army's 12 goals this season.
- The Sophomore class now accounts for 56% of the offensive production with 19 of Army's 32 points coming from the core group.
- Army's second year crew has now surpassed the junior year's career points mark after just 41 games.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
- Army's penalty killing unit unfortunately gave up its first power play goal of the season after 121:46 minutes played.
- The Black Knights boast a .958 efficiency rate on the penalty kill which ranks them third in the country.
- The Cadets are fourth in scoring defense (1.75) and ninth in scoring margin (1.25).
- Bruns' .946 save percentage ranks him sixth in the country.
- His goals against average (1.68) places him ninth.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- For the last three weeks, the Army West Point hockey team has had a presence in national polls.
- The Black Knights received votes for the past three USCHO.com National Polls, while also receiving recognition in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll after Army's wins over AIC.
