October 18, 2017 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 grinder against Boston University in the final game of the 2017 season at Malek Stadium on Wednesday Night.
The Black Knights dropped to 3-10-2 on the season and 1-5-1 in the Patriot League, while the Terriers improved to 8-6-3 on the year and 5-1-1 in league play.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 15th minute of the game when some tic-tac-toe passing led to a breakaway for Christina Wakefield who put the ball into the net.
Rookie goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia came up with a big save later in the period on a dangerous chance by the Terriers that kept it a one-goal contest. The Omaha, Neb., native was busy in the first 45 minutes of the game, making five saves and faced a total shots of 12 in the period.
The Black Knights were more offensive minded in the second half, firing six shots in the final period of action. Army's first chance came in the 57th minute when Nikiay Comer possessed the ball in the middle of the box and found Erynn Johns on the right flank who peppered a good scoring opportunity on frame.
Comer came through again in the 68th minute when she charged through the box and rifled a shot just wide to the left. Army's best chance came in the 81st minute when senior co-captain Clare Shea attempted a corner kick which was bending toward the net before it was punched away by Amanda Fay. She took a second effort at goal from the corner, but placed the second shot over the crossbar.
