Women’s Basketball Tripped Up by Bucknell

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team was handed its first conference loss of the season in a 60-56 setback to Bucknell in Patriot League action on Monday night at Christl Arena.
Army drops to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League after the loss, while Bucknell improves to 10-3 and 2-0.
The Black Knights trailed by 13, 60-47, with 2:40 remaining in the contest, but closed the deficit to four with the game's final nine points, including seven by sophomore Madison Hovren.
Army's home winning streak came to an end at 23 games, while its regular-season home winning streak was halted at 27 games.
Hovren totaled game highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds to notch her second straight double-double, and her eighth of the season. Junior Janae McNeal registered 10 points, while classmate Daizjah Morris chipped in seven. Junior Aliyah Murray finished with five points and seven boards.
Claire DeBoer led Bucknell with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double and Kaitlyn Slagus added 12 points and eight boards. Suné Swart also scored in double figures with 14 points.

- Bucknell took a 44-39 advantage into the fourth quarter and built its margin to 13 points, 60-47, with 2:40 left after a 16-8 run. Army netted the final nine points of the contest, but the lead was too much to overcome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swart scored the game's first four points for the visitors before Bucknell went on to open the game with an 8-2 lead.
- McNeal made a lay-in to finish a 6-2 Army run and make the score 10-8 with 5:48 left in the opening quarter.
- The Bison ended the first period with an 8-0 run that gave them an 18-10 advantage after one.
- Both teams scored early in the second quarter as Bucknell maintained its eight-point lead, 20-12, before Army scored six unanswered points to begin an 11-4 run that brought the hosts back to a 24-23 deficit with 3:31 left in the first half.
- McNeal ended the Black Knights' scoring streak with a fast-break lay-in off an assist from Murray.
- Bucknell responded with four straight points over the next 1:47, to extend its lead to five, 28-23, but Army got the final bucket of the half, with a lay-up from Hicks with 59 ticks left to bring the halftime score to 28-25, in favor of the Bison.
- Bucknell moved out to a 39-30 advantage by the 6:16 mark of the third quarter before Army came back with five straight points to make the score 39-35 after a pair of free throws from McNeal with 3:00 on the clock.
- Hovren scored the final four points of the third quarter for Army, including a lay-up with seven seconds left in the frame to bring the Black Knights to a five-point deficit, 44-39, entering the fourth.
- DeBoer picked off an errant Army pass and took the ball the length of the court to give Bucknell the game's first double-digit lead, 53-43, with 7:49 left before Slagus made two free throws to cap an 11-4 run and make the score 55-43 with 7:00 left in the game.
- The Bison eventually moved out to a 13-point lead, 60-47, with 2:40 remaining.
- Army closed the gap to four by the conclusion of the game, with a 9-0 run during the final 2:28 that included seven points from Hovren.
