Volleyball Opens the 2016 Season at Home

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball will open the 2016 season August 26-27 in a home tournament where the Black Knights will host Bakersfield, Hofstra and Valparaiso for the two-day West Point Invitational.

LEADING FROM THE FRONT
- The Cadets were chosen second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with seven first-place votes. The Black Knights also landed two players on the Preseason All-League team in middle blockers Carolyn Bockrath and Vanessa Wesley.
- The duo were second team All-Patriot League last season. Bockrath ranked 10th in the nation with a .425 hitting percentage, while Wesley was 27th .396, respectively.
RING WEEKEND
- On Friday evening, the Academy will begin the celebrations of Ring Weekend. Firstie captain Olivia Fairfield will be receiving her class ring in the historic ceremony prior to Army's first game. The event commemorates the Firsties' academic careers as they enter their final year at West Point.
TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS
- Army and Bakersfield will face each other for the first time in program history Friday evening.
- The Roadrunners were chosen second in the Western Athletic Conference's Preseason Poll with two players landing on the Preseason All-WAC Team in Carol Grasso and Sydney Haynes.
- The Black Knights will renew their rivalry with Hofstra which dates back to 1979. The Pride hold a 10-3 advantage over Army, but the Cadets won the last meeting (3-2) in 2010's West Point Challenge.
- Hofstra topped the Colonial Athletic Association's Preseason Poll, while Hannah Klemm, Veronika Kostova and Leticia Valente were named to the Preseason Team.
- Valparaiso and the Cadets will face each other for the second time this weekend. The teams' only other meeting was in 2013 when the Crusaders came away with a 3-1 victory.
- The Crusaders have been projected second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. They return Allison Ketcham, who was an All-Horizon League Team member and an Academic All-League athlete.
