WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team suffered a 1-0 loss to Lafayette Sunday afternoon in the Black Knights' regular season finale. The Cadets fell to 37-18 overall and 13-5 in the Patriot League on Senior Day.
Â
Lafayette took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third off a one-run single to center field. The Black Knights got a player on base in the home half of the fifth when Gladys Esparza-Gallegos singled to left field. Tyler McKinney subbed in as the pinch runner on first, but the Cadets' rally was squandered by the Leopards' defense.
Â
In the home half of the seventh, Emily Gray striped one up the middle to keep Army's hopes alive. Hailey Megge then stepped to first as the pinch runner for the Black Knights. However, the Leopards clinched the 1-0 victory with a double play.
Â
Lehigh has secured the top spot for the Patriot League Tournament and will play host to No. 2 Army, No. 3 Boston U and No. 4 Bucknell from May 14-16.
