PRINCETON, N.J. – The Army West Point women's track and field team saw its best performance come from freshman Abby Halbrook on the last day of the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday. Halbrook completed the 1,500 Meter Run in 4:26.66, a new career-best, and also the second-fastest time in school history.
Halbrook was the only freshman to qualify for the 1,500 Meter Run finals. The time was 3.22 seconds short of the Academy record set by Ashley Urick at the NCAA Regionals on May 29, 2004.
"Abby was outstanding today after she didn't feel very good yesterday and squeaked into the final," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith said. "She came out today and ran a personal best by three seconds in conditions that were less than ideal. Abby has been one of our most consistent performers and has shown tremendous improvement. She has improved by 20 seconds as a plebe, which for an academy plebe to show that kind of improvement is astounding."
