Men’s Track Set to Host Navy for Star Meet
March 31, 2016 | Men's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team will host its lone meet of the outdoor season as Navy comes to Shea Stadium for the annual Star Meet on Saturday. The field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., while the track events will start at 1 p.m.
The Black Knights will be honoring nine seniors at noon, including manager Joshua Akers, co-captain Taylor Andrews, Drew Beck, Mitch Dutton, co-captain Tom Girardot, Marcus Phillips, Stevyn Spees, Alex Tardieu and Branam Yow.
Army holds a 23-22 advantage at West Point in the series and is looking to tie the overall record against the Mids at 45.
Throughout the spring, the Cadets have been led by their youth. Sophomore Lee Bares has been a constant performer in the pole vault, winning the event at all three outdoor meets this season. The Lakeville, Minn., native has been named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week in each of the first two weeks.
Freshman Ben Sims garnered Rookie of the Week honors from the league on Monday as well for his stellar performance at the Penn Challenge last weekend.
As a team, Army has not finished lower than fourth in its three meets this season. After winning UC Irvine's Anteater Four-Way, the Black Knights placed fourth in their second meet in the Golden State before posting a third-place finish at the Penn Challenge last weekend.
