VOTE FOR McCRAVEY
Â
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior infielder Kasey McCravey was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball.
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
McCravey, the second-year captain, leads the Army softball team as the lone senior in 2016. She was named the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 for the second-straight season and notched her second NFCA All-Region First-Team accolade. She was also an All-Patriot League selection for the third time in her career last spring.
Â
Other post-season awards included McCravey earning first-team honors by College Sports Madness. She entered her final year on the banks of the Hudson ranked among Army's Top 10 in several categories. She is tied for first in home runs (20), second in RBI (122 – 15 shy of leader), third in batting average (.367), fourth in total bases (291), sixth in runs scored (111), seventh in hits (185) and walks (54 – 15 shy of the leader) and tied for that spot in doubles (34).
Â
McCravey is an active member in the West Point community and exemplifies selfless service. Every year she has volunteered her time for the betterment of females in athletics during Army's annual Girls and Women in Sports Day clinics and celebrations. Recently, McCravey has volunteered her time in New York City where she assists at a Rescue Mission with the rest of her cadet company. This past summer, she volunteered in Costa Rica and spent her time helping in an orphanage for a week and in nursing homes for two weeks.
Â
The Scottsdale, Ariz., native excels across all pillars at the Academy and is recognized not only by her teammates, but her classmates for her accomplishments. Academically, McCravey has a grade-point average and ranks in the top half of her class. Militarily, she has had experience in many leadership development classes and was chosen by Academy leadership to serve as the first sergeant of her company the first semester of her senior year. Physically, McCravey not only excels on the softball field and in her personal aptitude testing, but she takes the time to assist and mentor her classmates who struggle to pass their physical fitness tests focusing on the mantra, "no one left behind."
Â
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through May 9. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners.
Â
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 Women's College World Series®.
