Women’s Basketball Faces Cuse in NCAA Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team makes its return to the NCAA Tournament on Friday, when it faces Syracuse in the Carrier Dome at 2:30 p.m. The Black Knights are slated as a No. 13 seed, while the Orange occupy the No. 4 seed.

Army makes its third trip to the NCAA Tournament after its 69-51 win over Loyola in the Patriot League Championship on March 12. The 14th-seeded Black Knights face No. 4 Syracuse
Army enters the tournament on a team-record 19-game winning streak, with its last defeat coming on Jan. 2 at Bucknell. The Black Knights are the No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three season after facing No. 4 Maryland in the 2014 tournament.
Senior Kelsey Minato ranks second nationally in three-point percentage (.485) and seventh in scoring average (23.6) and owns most of Army's career and single-season scoring records.
Army has enjoyed the most-successful four-year period since the Class of 2016's arrival in 2012-13. Over that time, the Black Knights have a record of 99-27 (.786), have won at least 20 games during all four seasons, and have appeared in four straight national postseason tournaments. All of those statistics are team records.

• Army makes its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday after previously appearing in the tournament in 2014 and 2006.
• Minato currently has 2,546 points for her career and ranks 51st in NCAA Division I history. She enters Friday's game 20 points shy of cracking the top 50.
• The Black Knights currently lead the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.417) and stand fourth in scoring margin (+20.4).
• Army is appearing in its fourth straight national postseason tournament, including past trips to the NCAA Tournament (2014) and the WNIT (2013, 2015).
• Army and Syracuse will meet for the fifth time on Friday, following four consecutive years of playing from 1979-80 to 1982-83.

• Syracuse is in action on Friday for the first time since March 6, when it fell to Notre Dame, 68-57, in the ACC championship game.
• The Orange were led by junior Alexis Peterson's 19 points in that contest, while senior Cornelia Fondren finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
• Syracuse forces its opponents to make an average of 24.6 turnovers per game, which currently leads the country.
• Peterson paces the Orange with 14.9 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game this season.
PATRIOT LEAGUE POSTSEASON HONORS
Senior Kelsey Minato was named Patriot League Player of the Year for the third time in her career, as she also became the first player in league history to land on the All-Patriot League first team during all four years. Classmate Aimee Oertner was selected to the All-Patriot League second team and Janae McNeal was one of five players picked for the league's inaugural All-Defensive Team.
