Women’s Basketball Meets Colgate on Wednesday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team is on the road for the second game in a row on Wednesday, Feb. 10, when the Black Knights head to Colgate for a 7 p.m. contest.

STORYLINES
Army is on the road to face Colgate on Wednesday in a matchup that will mark the 10th game between the schools since the 2012-13 season. The Black Knights have faced the Raiders more than any other opponent in the last three-plus seasons and hold a 6-3 record during that time. Colgate leads, 2-1, in games played in Hamilton, N.Y., since 2012-13.
Army extended its winning streak to a season-high nine games after a 52-44 victory at Loyola on Feb. 6. The Black Knights will look to go for 10 in a row against Colgate after winning posting an 11-game winning streak last season.
The Black Knights are 6-2 in road games this season to include a 3-1 record against Patriot League opponents. After starting league play with a home-heavy schedule, Army will play five of its final seven regular-season games away from Christl Arena.
THE ARMY-COLGATE SERIES
Army controls a 38-21 all-time lead in its series against Colgate, including wins in each of the last four meetings. The Black Knights also own a narrow 14-12 advantage in Hamilton, N.Y., but the Raiders have won two their last three home games against Army.
ARMY WEST POINT (19-2, 10-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Army overcame a slow start to earn its ninth straight win, with a 52-44 defeat of Loyola on Jan. 6.
• The Black Knights scored just 19 points during the first half to tie for its lowest scoring output in a single half all season (first half vs. Albany, Dec. 5). Trailing 22-19 at the half, Army outscored Loyola, 20-10, in the third quarter before closing out the eight-point win.
• Senior Kelsey Minato was limited to two points in the opening half, but finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Minato scored six of Army's final 10 points, including a pair of free-throws with nine seconds remaining in the game.
• Senior Aimee Oertner totaled 12 points, four rebounds and four blocks, while freshman Madison Hovren shot 5-for-7 from the floor and netted 10 points off the bench.
• Hovren scored all 10 of her points in the paint, while Oertner netted 10 of her 12 points in the lane, to help the Black Knights to a 34-16 points-in-the-paint advantage.
COLGATE (4-17, 2-9 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Colgate is coming off a 62-58 setback against Navy on Feb. 8 in Hamilton, N.Y.
• Senior Paige Kriftcher tallied 15 points to lead three Raiders in double figures, as junior Katie Curtis and senior Josie Stockill netted 14 points and 11 points, respectively.
• Colgate trailed, 32-31, at halftime before managing a lead of 51-48 by the 8:52 mark of the fourth period. Navy regained the lead with an 11-1 run and never gave up the advantage.
• Stockill (11.8 points per game) and Kriftcher (11.6 points per game) both average in double figures, while senior Randyll Butler paces the Raiders with 8.2 rebounds per contest.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
After becoming the Army women's basketball team's career scoring leader on Dec. 3 against Yale, senior Kelsey Minato currently stands at 2,307 career points, just 19 shy of passing Kevin Houston's (USMA '87) career total of 2,325 to become Army's all-time scoring leader, man or woman.
Minato also ranks second on the Patriot League women's basketball career scoring ledger, and enters the week 156 points short of Molly Creamer's (Bucknell '03) mark of 2,462.
