Women’s Basketball Faces Navy on Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team closes out a two-game road trip this weekend when it faces Navy on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. The matchup will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and will precede the men's contest at 1:30 p.m.

STORYLINES
The Black Knights round out a two-game road swing against Navy. Army looks for its sixth regular-season sweep of a Patriot League opponent after previously sweeping American, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette and Loyola.
Currently on a 12-game winning streak, Army looks to set the team record for the longest winning streak in program history. The current 12-game streak is tied for the team record, originally set in 2006-07.
Senior Kelsey Minato scored a game-high 21 points last time out at Holy Cross to move within 84 points of passing 2003 Bucknell graduate Molly Creamer for first on the Patriot League's career scoring list (2,462 points).
THE ARMY-NAVY SERIES
Army holds a narrow 33-32 advantage in an all-time series against Navy that dates back to the 1980-81 season. The Black Knights have won six of the last 10 meetings and Army's senior class owns a 5-2 mark against the Mids.
ARMY WEST POINT (22-2, 13-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Army extended its winning streak to 12 games with an 80-49 victory over Holy Cross on Feb. 17.
• Minato tallied 21 points and made 4-of-5 from deep, while sophomore Janae McNeal posted 17 points and a career-high five steals.
• Senior Aimee Oertner scored 12 points and added four blocks, and sophomore Destinee Morris netted a career-best 11 points.
• The Black Knights had four players score in double figures for second straight game, and for the third time this season. Army shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field to mark the fifth time it has reached the 50.0 percent plateau this season in the win over the Crusaders.
• Minato currently ranks sixth nationally with 23.6 points per game and shoots 49.0 percent from three-point range to list second in the country.
NAVY (14-11, 8-6 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Navy secured its fourth victory in a row with a 62-54 road win at Lehigh on Feb. 17.
• Freshman Christina Potts led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while senior Peri Curtis and junior Justice Swett finished with 12 points and 10 points, respectively.
• The Midshipmen trailed 20-17 after the first quarter, but outscored the Mountain Hawks 19-6 in the second period to take control heading into the halftime break.
• Sophomore Taylor Dunham leads Navy with 11.3 points per game this season, while Curtis' 5.3 rebounds per contest are a team best.
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Army is receiving a vote in the Associated Press Poll this week (released 2/15) for the first time since drawing votes back in the 2006-07 season. The Black Knights also garnered votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll earlier this year after playing to a narrow loss at then-nationally ranked Duke and following a win over an Albany team that was receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Kelsey Minato set Army's career scoring record, including both men's and women's players, with 29 points at Colgate on Jan. 10. She passed Kevin Houston's (USMA '87) career total of 2,325 points against Colgate after becoming the Army women's basketball team's career scoring leader on Dec. 3 against Yale.
Minato also ranks second on the Patriot League women's basketball career scoring ledger, and enters the weekend 84 points short of Molly Creamer's (Bucknell '03) mark of 2,462.
