Wrestling Suffers Setback at No. 4 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Army West Point wrestling team suffered a 36-3 setback against the No. 4 Cowboys of Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena Friday night.
"I thought that we competed well in most matches," said head coach Kevin Ward. "They have a pretty good team, so it's not easy to win matches against them. I'm not happy with the result at all. We are capable of doing better, but I like the fact that we are wrestling through full matches and winning third periods. That's our way of wrestling."
The meet started at 125 pounds where Jacob Fontanez return to his hometown in just his fifth-career match. OSU came out firing on all cylinders, taking the first four matches. In those matches, 141-pounder Logan Everett kept his bout close, holding top-ranked Dean Heil to a 7-2 decision.
The Black Knights lone win came at 157 pounds as Russell Parsons Jr. powered his way to a 9-4 decision. With the win, the Clinton, N.J., native eclipsed the 50-win plateau, becoming the third member of this year's team with 50 or more career wins.
"Russell beat a very quality opponent tonight and really dominated every position," added Ward. "His relentless pace is hard for opponents to handle. When he finds his offense like he did tonight, he is very dangerous."
The Pokes would take the final five matches, including a final-second pin at 165 pounds. OSU now leads the all-time series 3-0 and are 2-0 at home.
Army's final dual of the season comes on Saturday, Feb. 20, as they head down to Annapolis, Md., to face their service academy rivals Navy at Wesley A. Brown Field House at 7:30 p.m. The Black Knights are looking for their second-straight win over the Mids after snapping a 17-year winless streak last season at Christl Arena.
