Hovren’s Double-Double Not Enough at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Army West Point women's basketball team saw its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Thursday night, after a 70-52 setback to Minnesota at Williams Arena.
Army takes its second loss of the season and falls to 7-2, while Minnesota improves to 7-3.
Sophomore Madison Hovren posted her fifth double-double in a row, with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive glass. Hovren also tallied a career-best five blocked shots. Junior Destinee Morris finished with 12 points off the bench in the return to her home state of Minnesota, making a career-high four three-pointers.
Sophomore Jess Lewis chipped in eight points for the Cadets, and junior Lena' Hicks contributed seven points and six boards.
The Golden Gophers were led by Carlie Wagner's 20-point effort, as well as 18 points from Gadiva Hubbard and 15 more from Kenisha Bell.

- After leading 21-10 after the first quarter, Minnesota outscored Army, 17-5, in the second to build its advantage to 23 points, 38-15, at halftime. The Black Knights' five points in the second quarter are its fewest in a quarter all season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minnesota scored the final five points of the first quarter to control a 21-10 lead at the end of one.
- The Golden Gophers pulled away in the second quarter and extended their lead to 23 points, 38-15, at the half.
- The Cadets were held to just five points in the second period, marking a season low in a single quarter.
- Hovren scored three points in the second, with all three coming on free throws, and Hicks hit the Black Knights' only field goal of the frame.
- Army followed up a 15-point first-half performance with a 37-point second half, while holding Minnesota to 32 points in the second half.
- Hovren tallied a double-double in the second half alone, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
