Army Opens League Play with Lehigh and Bucknell

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team begins its 18-game Patriot League schedule at Lehigh on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Bucknell to Christl Arena three days later on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.

STORYLINES
Army is 17-9 in Patriot League openers since the conference began in 1990-91. The Cadets are 9-1 in league openers under 11th-year head coach Dave Magarity, and are 4-4 when starting the conference season against Lehigh.

Sophomore Madison Hovren enters Patriot League play with a league-best 19.0 points per game, while ranking second in the conference with 9.9 rebounds per game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
Army was selected third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, while Bucknell was chosen as the preseason favorite and Lehigh was slated for a second-place finish.

THE ARMY-LEHIGH SERIES
Army holds a narrow 31-30 advantage in a series against Lehigh that dates back to Jan. 6, 1984. Army won all three matchups last season, including a 76-46 victory in the Patriot League semifinals on March 11, 2016. The Black Knights and the Mountain Hawks opened league play opposite one another exactly a year ago from tomorrow's game, as they played on Dec. 30, 2015 at West Point.

THE ARMY-BUCKNELL SERIES
Bucknell leads Army, 33-25, in a series that began on Feb. 16, 1984. The Black Knights and the Bison split two games last year, with each team winning on its home court.

ARMY (9-2, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Army enters Patriot League action with a 9-2 record, most recently defeating Mercy College, 90-48, on Dec. 17.
• The Black Knights hit the 90-point mark for the first time since defeating Staten Island, 108-64, on Dec. 29, 2013, and did so for the 18th time in team history.
• Army hit a team-record-tying 13 three-pointers in the win over Mercy.
• Hovren's double-double streak came to an end at six, but she led all players with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added seven rebounds.
• Junior Destinee Morris and freshman Morgann Yancey each netted 12 points off the bench, with Morris shooting 4-of-6 from deep and Yancey going a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.

LEHIGH (5-6, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Lehigh enters Friday on a three-game losing streak and last played 19 days ago, when it lost on the road at RV/#24 California, 96-63, on Dec. 11.
• Quinci Mann had 23 points for the Mountain Hawks against California, while Bernadette Devaney and Gena Grundhoffer finished with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
• Mann begins Patriot League play as the conference's second-leading scorer with 17.6 points per game.

BUCKNELL (8-3, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Bucknell was last in action on Dec. 20, when it defeated Manhattan, 69-64, to finished nonconference play 8-3.
• Claire DeBoer paces the Bison with 14.5 points per game, while Kaitlyn Slagus averages 14.2 points per game and a league-best 10.5 rebounds per game.
• Bucknell opens its Patriot League slate on Friday, with a home contest against Navy.
