Men’s Soccer Faces Holy Cross, Lehigh This Week

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team continues Patriot League action with a pair of matches this week, beginning with a home contest against Holy Cross on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The Black Knights close out the week with a road matchup at Lehigh on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.

Army leads Holy Cross 16-14-4 in an all-time series between the schools that dates back to 1983. The Black Knights are 1-2-4 versus the Crusaders under seventh-year head coach Russell Payne, including a draw in the 2013 Patriot League semifinals that Holy Cross advanced in after winning the penalty kick shootout. The sides tied in each of the last two seasons and Army's last win in the series came in 2011 at West Point.
Army also holds a slim lead in its series against Lehigh, with a 21-19-6 advantage. The Cadets are 2-2-1 in the rivalry during the last five seasons, including a 2-1 record in the last three. Army defeated Lehigh, 3-2, last season before the Mountain Hawks went on to win the Patriot League Championship as the tournament's No. 4 seed.
ARMY (4-4-1, 1-1-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Army went 1-1 last week, defeating Sacred Heart, 1-0, on Sept. 27 and falling to Patriot League foe Lafayette, 2-0, on Oct. 1.
• Freshman goalie Justin Stoll started in both matches, making five saves for the shutout in the Sacred Heart game before stopping four shots against Lafayette.
• Freshman Rex Epps netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season versus Sacred Heart.
• Senior Nick Williams has three goals on the year, while classmate Christian Clark, junior Okheem Riley, and freshmen Tyler Mitchiner and Keenan O'Shea all have one.
HOLY CROSS (5-5-0, 1-1-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Holy Cross fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bucknell on Oct. 1 to round out a three-game homestand.
• Matt Villano paces the Crusaders with five goals and three assists this year.
• Goalkeeper Henry Stutz is 5-3 in net with a 1.42 goals against average and a .765 save percentage.
• All five of Holy Cross' victories have come at home, as the Crusaders are 0-3 in away matches this season.
LEHIGH (3-6-1, 0-2-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
• Lehigh was handed a 1-0 setback on the road at Colgate in its last outing on Oct. 1.
• The Mountain Hawks are led in the scoring department by Mark Forrest, who has a team-high four goals and ranks tied for the team lead with three assists.
• Jacob Gottwald has started in seven games and has posted a pair of shutouts.
• Lehigh returns home for two games and will host Navy on Wednesday before welcoming the Black Knights this weekend.
