Rifle Edged Out by Kentucky
October 29, 2016 | Rifle
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Marvin Lewis set the pace for the Army West Point rifle team, but his efforts were not enough as the No. 16 Black Knights fell to No. 6 Kentucky, 4704-4651, in a Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) match at Buell Armory Saturday.
The Black Knights (1-2, 0-2 GARC) turned in season highs in both aggregate (4651) and smallbore (2312), the team's highest score since posting a 4653 aggregate at the GARC Championships in 2013-14.
The Wildcats, who defeated Navy earlier this year, claimed the individual winner in both disciplines, sweeping the top three in smallbore and the first four in air rifle.

AGGREGATE SCORING
- Lewis was fifth with an 1168 (581/587), Nunn 1163 (577/586) placed sixth with Brewer 1159 (575/580) and Cuomo 1155 (579/576) finishing ninth and tenth, respectively.
COACH'S COMMENTS:
- "I think that score (our best in a few years) is indicative of the hard work the team has put in," said head coach Web Wright, "but I also got the sense that everyone walked off the line knowing we could do better scrapping points here and there. We have been shooting well in practice, and I think we will continue to build and are still getting better and we are still learning and have the rest of the season to keep working on it."
NEXT UP
- The Black Knights continue action this weekend traveling to Morehead State to take on the Eagles at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
