McGraw Sends Army Past Colgate in Double OT

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team played into double overtime for the second straight game, but this time came away with a 2-1 victory after freshman Zac McGraw scored with just 44 seconds left to send the Black Knights to a Patriot League win over Colgate on Wednesday evening at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
Army improves to 8-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Patriot League with the victory, while Colgate falls to 10-5-1 and 4-2-1.
McGraw beat Colgate's Ricky Brown at the right post, following a corner kick from junior Marcos Arroyo on the left side. McGraw's game winner came in the 110th, and final minute, with 44 ticks left in double overtime.
Senior Nick Williams opened the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute to put Army on top, 1-0, before Colgate's Ethan Kutler equalized on a free kick in the 90th minute, with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
Army freshman Justin Stoll made four saves in net, including a key stop in the 99th minute to keep the game level and send it to double overtime.
The Black Knights move into a tie with Colgate for third place in the Patriot League standings, as both teams have 13 points. Loyola is in second with 14 points and American sits atop the conference with 16 points.
"We told Zac to press forward because he had been dangerous in the box all night, and he was true to form," said head coach Russell Payne. "Our seniors really stepped up tonight, they talked about it today and knew they needed to step up more and they did. I think our freshmen grew up tonight and I'm really happy with the effort from everyone, from our seniors to our freshmen."

KEY MOMENT
- McGraw corralled a corner kick from Arroyo in the 110th minute and sent his shot into the net at the right post to give Army the dramatic 2-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Williams scored off a set piece in the 84th minute to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead. Williams won Army a free kick after drawing a foul while shielding the ball away from a Colgate defender next to the right-side corner flag. Arroyo took the free kick and sent the ball across the goal, where McGraw skied to head the ball back across to Williams, who headed the ball home at the near post for his fifth tally of the season.
- Kutler converted a free kick to tie the match at 1-1 with just 45 seconds left in regulation.
- McGraw blasted home a well-placed corner kick from Arroyo at the left corner flag with 44 ticks left in double overtime to seal the victory for the Cadets.
