Mens Track Opens 2016 at Penn State Relays
January 08, 2016 | Men's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team will open its 2016 slate at the Penn State Relays in State College, Pa., on Saturday.
This will be the first meet for the Black Knights where there will be team scoring, having hosted the unscored Crowell Open to open their season back on Dec. 5.
"This is when we will find out how each person trained over winter break," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "We want to have a meet at the very beginning of the semester so we can assess what type of training took place while the Cadets were home. Then we can correct the issues that need correcting and build on the strength of the training that took place. The results will reflect their training."
At the Crowell Open, Army won 13 of 15 events, with three top-10 all-time marks broken. Freshman Ben Sims set the third-best 60 meter dash time in program history at 6.89, earning him Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week honors on Dec. 7.
The Penn State Relays are set to start at 10 a.m. from the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track facilities.
