Women’s Basketball Set to Face Navy at the Garden

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team makes its first trip to Madison Square Garden since the 2007-08 season, when it meets Navy on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 11:30 a.m.
USAA presents Army-Navy Basketball at Madison Square Garden begins with the women's Star Game, which will precede the Army-Navy men's contest, slated for 2 p.m. Both games will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.

STORYLINES
Army faces Navy in the 2016 Star Game at Madison Square Garden, marking the first time the women's Army-Navy game has been contested at the World's Most Famous Arena. Saturday is also just the second Army-Navy women's game to be played at a neutral location during the regular season, after the first-ever meeting was held in Hanover, N.H., on Jan. 18, 1981.
Senior Kelsey Minato became Army's career field goals leader early in the second quarter against Holy Cross after hitting her 707th career basket. She moved past Katie Macfarlane's (USMA '04) previous team record of 706 field goals and increased her number to 711 by the end of the game.
With the 77-58 win over Holy Cross on Jan. 20, tenth-year head coach Dave Magarity moved within three victories of reaching 500 for his career. Magarity's record over his 32-plus seasons as head coach is 497-441, including 23 years on the men's side. He is 184-104 since taking the position at Army prior to the 2006-07 season.
THE ARMY-NAVY SERIES
Army and Navy are tied, 32-32, in an all-time series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. Army holds a 20-14 advantage in star games, and is currently on a three-game winning streak in the Star Series.
ARMY WEST POINT (15-2, 6-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Minato netted a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting to include a 4-of-9 showing from deep.
• Senior Brianna Johnson came one point shy of her career-high point total, with 14 points, thanks to knocking down a career-best four three-pointers.
• Sophomore Aliyah Murray notched her first-career double-double, with 11 points and career-high 13 rebounds. Murray continued her consistency off the bench and is now averaging 9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds over the last four outings.
• After going without a single three-pointer at American on Jan. 16, the Black Knights converted 11 triples in the Holy Cross game to match their second-highest output of the year.
NAVY (9-9, 3-4 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Navy enters this weekend's game after a 51-48 setback against Lehigh on Jan. 16.
• Junior Sarita Condie led the Midshipmen with 15 points and seven rebounds, while senior Peri Curtis registered 12 points and five boards.
• Navy held a 48-44 advantage late in the game before Lehigh netted the final seven points of the contest to come away with the win.
• Sophomore Taylor Dunham paces the Midshipmen with 12.9 points per game, while junior Justice Sweet is the team's rebounding leader (5.7).
ARMY AT MSG
Army has played at Madison Square Garden twice previously in its 39-year history, appearing in back-to-back Maggie Dixon Classics at the World's Most Famous Arena in 2007 and 2008. The Black Knights faced Rutgers each year and dropped both matchups, falling to the Scarlet Knights, 59-42 on Dec. 8, 2007, and by a score of 59-38 on Dec. 14, 2008.

This year's senior class set the program's all-time record for the most victories over a four-year span after securing its 85th win with a 77-58 victory over Holy Cross. The Class of 2016 owns a current record of 85-27 over its three-plus seasons, while last year's senior class, the Class of 2015, previously held the record with a career mark of 84-41. The Black Knights' senior class includes Johnson, Minato, Brigette Ocran, Aimee Oertner and Jean Parker.
