Women’s Soccer Challenges No. 20 UConn Friday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team wraps up a three-game road trip on Friday evening when it takes on No. 20 Connecticut at 7 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies own a perfect 5-0-0 record entering the contest, which includes a pair of victories over Patriot League opponents. UConn knocked off Colgate by a 4-1 final to open its season, before beating Navy, 4-2, in Annapolis, Md. The Huskies also boast wins over Georgetown (2-1), Syracuse (1-0) and Harvard (2-1).
Last time out, UConn came from behind to beat Harvard with two goals in the final five minutes of the match. In the 86th minute, senior Sam McGuire netted the equalizer, before Rachel Hill put home the game-winning goal with 36 seconds to play. Hill leads UConn with five goals and two assists on the season, while Stephanie Ribeiro is second on the Huskies with three tallies to her credit. In goal, Emily Armstrong has played in all five matches and has given up an average of one goal per game.
Army faces its second top-25 opponent in a week after falling to then No. 20 DePaul, 3-0, last weekend in Chicago. The loss was the second of three straight setbacks for the Black Knights, who are looking to right the ship following a 1-0 decision at Loyola Chicago.
Six different Army players have found the back of the net in 2015, and Senior CLASS Award candidate Katie Holder leads the squad with four points. In goal, junior Jordan Cassalia has played a majority of the minutes and owns a 2-3-0 record, with a 1.64 goals-against average and 21 saves. Cassalia made two saves and did not allow a goal in the second half of the match against the Ramblers.

Next up for Army is the first Star Match of the 2015-16 season when the Black Knights host Navy on Sept. 18 at Clinton Field.
