Army West Point Athletics

Getting to Know: Warren Kay
June 12, 2015 | Sprint Football
Each weekday this summer a new cadet-athlete will be featured in Getting to Know, a Q&A series where Army West Point fans can read about their favorite players.
NAME: Warren Kay
              Â
HOMETOWN: Goshen, Ind.
MAJOR:Â Chemical Engineering
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY: There are a lot of people who I look up to, but Kevin Scruggs (Kicker, USMA Class of 2013) has been instrumental in shaping my West Point experience. His helmet sticker is still on the kicking tee where he left it.
GREATEST ATHLETE ON EARTH TODAY IS: It's tough to compare athletes in different sports when so many are capable of doing things that amaze me. I'll say Blake Griffin just because of how entertaining his dunks are.
FAVORITE ARMY WEST POINT TEAM OTHER THAN YOUR OWN:Â Army West Point's Wrestling Team
FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY IN:Â Shea Stadium, because it means we're playing at home. But Franklin Field (Penn) is a pretty cool atmosphere.
OPPONENT MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING:Â Navy
WHAT TEAM NOT ON YOUR SCHEDULE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY: I'm pretty sure Maryland had a team at one point. I think it would be fun to play against a team from a school of that size.
HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR SUMMER: Cadet Leader Development Training (my final field training) and a Platoon Leader for the first half of Cadet Basic Training.
ON MY TEAM, I AM THE BEST… Kicker. But then again, I'm also the only one.
FAVORITE MEAL:Â I'm not very picky - anything covered in Hunger Sauce.
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: Anywhere with my fiancée.
FAVORITE WARMUP SONG: I'm not sure how this happened, but Made in America (by Toby Keith) somehow ended up on our home warm-up playlist two years ago. It's become a song that I now associate with getting ready to play.
FAVORITE PART OF WEST POINT:Â All the awesome opportunities. We get to do things on a regular basis that very few people can say they have done.
DESCRIBE ARMY WEST POINT SPRINT FOOTBALL:Â Small soldiers, big hearts.
FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP: Static Shock
MOST MEMORABLE ATHLETIC MOMENT: Assisting on my older brother's goal during a soccer game in the state tournament of his senior year.
HOW ARE YOU IMPROVING YOUR GAME IN THE OFFSEASON: Watching a lot of film and making sure I still have the playbook memorized. I have also been working on my jump shot quite a bit.
WHAT PLAYER WILL SURPRISE PEOPLE NEXT SEASON: Jack Barnett – it will be nice to have him back in the secondary this year.
WHO IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Marqus Burrell
WHO IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Mark Dabeck
WHICH TEAMMATE IS MOST LIKLEY TO BECOME A GENERAL: Aaron Rounds
ADVICE FOR INCOMING PLEBE TEAMMATES: When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
FAVORITE PERSON TO FOLLOW ON TWITTER: I don't have Twitter, but I check my high school athletic director's updates to keep up with my younger brother's sporting events.
