Army West Point Athletics
Getting to Know: Mike McFadden
June 11, 2015 | Football
Each weekday this summer a new cadet-athlete will be featured in Getting to Know, a Q&A series where Army West Point fans can read about their favorite players.
NAME: Mike McFadden   Â
HOMETOWN: Harvest, AL
MAJOR:Â Law and Legal Studies
DESCRIBE YOUR HEAD COACH: The most intense coach I've ever played for, but genuinely cares about his players and wants to ensure that this team performs at the highest possible level.
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY:Â My Dad. He's been an excellent example of a servant leader to me as I've grown up and the way he strives for excellence in everything he does is something I've
always tried to emulate.
GREATEST ATHLETE ON EARTH TODAY IS: STILL Bo Jackson
FAVORITE ARMY WEST POINT TEAM OTHER THAN YOUR OWN: Men's Soccer. Altough H-1's flag football team, led by QB Derek Wilson, is looking to compete at the NCAA level next year. If they make it, then I'd have to go with them.
FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY IN:Â Yankee Stadium was an unbelievable experience last year. I wish we got the chance to play there again this year, but I'm looking forward to playing in the Eagles' Stadium in December.
OPPONENT MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING: As coach Monken would put it, "Those fellas from down in Annapolis"
WHAT TEAM NOT ON YOUR SCHEDULE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY: Growing up in Alabama I was always an Auburn fan so I would like to go down and get the chance to play them in Jordan-Hare. In High School I played against some of the kids on the team there now so I would like to get a chance at a rematch with those guys.
HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR SUMMER: Two weeks in the field for Cadet Leadership Development Time (CLDT), two weeks in Ft. Bragg for Cadet Troop Leadership Time (CTLT), and then summer classes and offseason workouts here at West Point.
ON MY TEAM, I AM THE BEST… Coach Monken impersonator
FAVORITE MEAL:Â My dad's Tri Tip steak with a tall, cold glass of Milo's sweet tea.
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: I've always wanted to take a trip to Israel, hopefully I can make that happen sometime soon
FAVORITE WARMUP SONG: Luke Proulx and I like to get hype to "You Raise Me Up" by Celtic Woman
BIGGEST NIGHTMARE: Never graduating West Point
FAVORITE PART OF WEST POINT: The friends I've made here. I've gotten the chance to meet people from all over and have made some friendships that will definitely last a lifetime.
DESCRIBE ARMY WEST POINT FOOTBALL: The word "Brotherhood" gets thrown around by a lot of teams, but you won't find a more close-knit group of guys than the ones here. When you watch us this fall you're going to see a tough, determined group of brothers who are going to fight for each other for all four quarters of every game we play this year.Â
FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP: Spongebob Squarepants
MOST MEMORABLE ATHLETIC MOMENT: Beating Cleveland High School 42-41 in double OT my junior year of high school
HOW ARE YOU IMPROVING YOUR GAME IN THE OFFSEASON: Watching a lot of film so that I can get a better handle on my assignments.
WHAT PLAYER WILL SURPRISE PEOPLE NEXT SEASON:Â My Locker Mate, Aaron Kemper. I've been giving him a lot of advice and pointers which seemed to pay off in the Spring. He's ready to breakout this Fall.
WHO IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Physically, Colby Enegren. Emotionally, Jeremy Timpf.
WHO IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Southern Oregon's finest: Alex "T-Nasty" Tardieu. Don't let the fact that he's a punter fool you, easily one of the funniest guys I've ever met
WHICH TEAMMATE IS MOST LIKLEY TO BECOME A GENERAL: Caleb McNeill. Also most likely to become the third U.S. president to graduate from West Point.
ADVICE FOR INCOMING PLEBE TEAMMATES: Don't let the stress of being a Plebe overwhelm you, it gets better after this year. Be willing to get help from your peers or older teammates.
FAVORITE PERSON TO FOLLOW ON TWITTER:Â I started following Coach Mack Brown (@ESPN_CoachMack) after he came and spoke to our team. He tweets out a lot of great thoughts and inspirational quotes.
