WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army men's tennis team grabbed its fourth consecutive victory, defeating Boston University, 6-1, in a Patriot League match on Saturday afternoon at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights improve to 13-8 overall and 4-0 in the league, while the Terriers drop to 2-6 and 1-1.
Army's win marks its 17th straight against Patriot League opposition in the regular season, dating back to March 22, 2013.
"We played hard today and won a bunch of close matches," said Army head coach Jim Poling. "I was especially happy with how we played in doubles."
Army swept doubles action thanks to a trio of victories, including 8-3 wins by senior Alex Van Velzer and sophomore Sam Lampman (No. 1) and junior Harrison McCormick and sophomore Grant Riechmann (No. 2). Army's No. 3 pairing of junior Austin McCasin and sophomore Kyle Barnes took an 8-6 decision over Boston University's Jake De Vries and Jay Leelavanich.
The Black Knights collected victories in five of the six singles contests, with Lampman, Van Velzer and Riechmann managing wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles, respectively.
Junior Caison Best dropped the first set against De Vries at the fifth position, but fought back for a 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 victory, while McCormick edged Lucas Bombanotti, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6.
Army is back on the court next weekend for home matches against Lehigh (April 4) and Bucknell (April 5).
