STORYLINES
Army posted its sixth consecutive victory with the win over Emerson to finish nonconference play with a 9-1 record, marking its best start since beginning 10-1 in 2000-01.
The Black Knights begin Patriot League competition against a Lehigh team that they finished 1-2 against last season.
Since joining the Patriot League in 1990-91, Army is 16-9 in its first conference game of the year. The Black Knights won 10 Patriot League openers in a row from 2004-05 to 2013-14 before dropping a 71-60 decision at Lafayette to kick off last year's league slate. Army is 8-1 in Patriot League openers under 10th-year head coach Dave Magarity and is 3-4 when beginning the conference season against Lehigh.
THE ARMY-LEHIGH SERIES
Lehigh controls a narrow 30-28 lead in an all-time series between the schools that dates back to 1983-84. Army and Lehigh played three times last season, with the Mountain Hawks grabbing wins in two of the three meetings to include a 76-57 victory in the Patriot League semifinals on March 9.
ARMY WEST POINT (9-1, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Senior Kelsey Minato reached the 20-point mark for the eighth time this season against Emerson, as she finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting. After struggling in the first half, Minato shot 8-of-13 and totaled 18 points in the second frame.
• Freshman Madison Hovren matched her career high with 11 points, while setting career standards in rebounds (7) and field goals (5), after shooting 5-of-6 from the field. Senior Jean Parker shot 4-of-5 from the floor and netted 10 points, and classmate Brianna Johnson chipped in seven points in her return to the lineup.
• The Black Knights received scoring contributions from a season-high 14 players to mark their fourth game of the season with points from at least 10 players (Central Connecticut State, St. Francis Brooklyn, NJIT).
• After defeating Emerson, Army became just the second women's team in Patriot League history to reach the 600-win mark, joining Holy Cross, which currently has 711 victories. Army's all-time varsity record stands at 600-512.
LEHIGH (7-4, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Lehigh halted a four-game losing streak with a 63-56 win at Hampton in its most-recent outing on Dec. 20.
• Sophomore Quinci Mann led the Mountain Hawks with 21 points, while junior Lexi Martins finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
• Senior Kerry Kinek grabbed 15 boards, and also scored seven points, as Lehigh controlled a 48-34 rebounding advantage over Hampton.
• Martins is the Patriot League's leader in rebounding (15.3 rpg) and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring average (15.3 ppg).
DIALED IN FROM DOWNTOWN
Army has continued to shoot the three-pointer well this year after finishing each of the last three seasons atop the Patriot League in three-point shooting percentage (2012-13: 33.3 // 2013-14: 37.2 // 2014-15: 35.4). Through 10 contests this season, the Black Knights have made 41.7 percent of their three-point attempts and currently stand first in the Patriot League and fourth among the nation's Division I programs in the category.
Army's long-range success is due, in large part, to two of the most-accurate three-point shooters in Academy history, in Minato and Parker. Minato paces the team with 32 triples and stands second in the conference with a 45.7 percentage from deep. Parker has converted 20 shots from beyond the arc and leads in the league, and ranks 12th nationally, at 48.8 percent. Minato is Army's career leader in three-pointers, with 253, while Parker ranks sixth in team history with 111. Army's three-pointers currently represent 41.3 percent of its total offense this season.
