THE ARMY-NJIT SERIES
Friday's matchup will be the first-ever meeting between Army and NJIT.
ARMY WEST POINT (7-1) NOTES
• Army never trailed at St. Francis Brooklyn, and led by as many as 41, before coming away with the 39-point victory.
• Senior Aimee Oertner finished one point shy of her third double-double of the season, with nine points and a career-high-tying 12 rebounds.
• Sophomore Janae McNeal made her fourth consecutive start and netted eight points, while freshman Izzy McMahon contributed a career-best eight points off the bench.
• Minato leads the Black Knights in scoring with 23.0 points per game and currently ranks ninth nationally in the category.
NJIT (3-5) NOTES
• NJIT was last in action on Dec. 9 when it played to a 53-44 road victory at LIU Brooklyn.
• The Highlanders received double-digit scoring contributions from three different players, including junior Leah Horton, who posted a game-high 16 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
• Juniors Alana Dudley and Camerin Spahn finished with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.
• Horton leads NJIT in a number of statistical areas to include scoring (11.5 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and steals (1.8 spg).
MINATO EARNS PATRIOT LEAGUE RECOGNITION
Minato drew Patriot League Player of the Week honors on Dec. 7 after averaging 21.5 ppg and setting Army's career scoring record last week. The league mention marked her second of the season and the 13th of her career.
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Army is receiving a vote in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll after playing to a pair of come-from-behind victories last week. The Black Knights defeated Yale, 65-61, on Dec. 3 for their first win over the season after trailing by 11 in the third period. In the next game, Army erased a 12-point second-half deficit to post a 65-62 win over a UAlbany team receiving four votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll on Dec. 5. Army also moved up two spots, from 20th to 18th, in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll for its performance through the first eight games of the year. Both weekly polls were announced on Dec. 8.
THREE-POINT SHOOTING SUCCESS
Army has continued to shoot the three-pointer well early this year after finishing each of the last three seasons atop the Patriot League in three-point shooting percentage (2013-13: 33.3 // 2013-14: 37.2 // 2014-15: 35.4). Through eight contests this season, the Black Knights have made 44.5 percent of their three-point attempts and currently stand first in the Patriot League and third among the nation's Division I programs. Army's long-range success is due, in large part, to two of the most accurate three-point shooters in Academy history, in Minato and fellow senior Jean Parker. Minato paces the team with 25 triples and stands third in the conference with a 45.5 percentage from deep. Parker has converted 17 shots from beyond the arc and ranks second in the league, and 17th nationally, at 50.0 percent. Minato is Army's career leader in three-pointers, with 246, while Parker ranks sixth in team history with 108.
