Women’s Basketball Welcomes in CCSU Thursday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After opening the year 2-0 with a win over Quinnipiac on Nov. 15, the Army West Point women's basketball team is set to square off against Central Connecticut State to conclude its three-game homestand on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m.

STORYLINES
Army's 67-57 victory against Quinnipiac gave the Black Knights wins in each of their first two games for the first time since the 2003-04 season, when they were victorious in their first five contests.
Senior Kelsey Minato leads Army in scoring (27.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) early this season and currently ranks 10th nationally in points per game.
THE ARMY-CCSU SERIES
Army is unbeaten in seven games against Central Connecticut State in a series that dates back to the 1983-84 season. The Black Knights earned a 74-60 win over the Blue Devils in New Britain, Conn., last season. Thursday marks CCSU's first trip to West Point since Dec. 31, 2006.
ARMY WEST POINT (2-0) NOTES
• Minato led the way for Army in scoring (26) and rebounding (7) for the second game in a row during the Black Knights' 67-57 win over Quinnipiac.
• Senior Brianna Johnson set career standards in points (15), three-pointers (3) and steals (3) versus the Bobcats, while classmate Aimee Oertner finished with 10 points for the second time this year.
• Freshman Madison Hovren registered five points and three rebounds in the second half and came up with key offensive rebounds in the final quarter to help send Army to the eventual 10-point victory.
• The Black Knights have shot about 40-percent in each of their first two games, finishing the Quinnipiac game with a 42 percent (21-of-50) shooting percentage after hitting shots at a 40.4 percent (23-of-57) clip in the opener against Pepperdine.
CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE (1-1) NOTES
• Central Connecticut State is coming off a 64-53 victory over UMass Lowell on Nov. 17 after falling at Vermont by a score of 79-63 in its season opener.
• Aleah Epps poured in a game-high 15 points for the Blue Devils against UMass Lowell, while Tejahne Malone and Kayla Miller each contributed 13 points.
• Miller leads CCSU in a majority of statistical categories, including scoring (13.5), rebounding (9.5) and steals (4.0).
• The Blue Devils were selected third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll after finishing in a tie for first place in the league and setting a program record with 19 victories in 2014-15.
MINATO, HOVREN COLLECT WEEKLY HONORS
Minato and Hovren were honored in the first addition of Patriot League weekly awards on Monday, as Minato was named the league's Player of the Week for the 12th time in her career and Hovren drew Rookie of the Week praise. Minato averaged 27.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games last week, while Hovren posted averages of 4.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
After finishing near the bottom of the Patriot League in the rebounding department in 2014-15, Army currently stands third in the conference with 43.5 rebounds through two contests this year. The Black Knights collected 43 boards in the season opener against Pepperdine before grabbing 44 versus Quinnipiac. Army reached the 40-rebound mark three times last season. Minato leads the way early in the season with 7.5 rebounds per game, while Oertner, senior Jean Parker and junior Dani Failor average 5.5 boards per contest. The early play of Hovren (4.0 rpg) has provided the Black Knights with another solid rebounding threat, as Hovren also averages a team-leading 3.0 offensive rebounds this season.

Army takes to the road for the first time this season on Sunday, when it faces nationally ranked Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils are ranked 14th in the current AP Poll and stand ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
