WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team plays the second match of its three-game homestand on Saturday, Oct. 17 when it welcomes American to Clinton Field at 7 p.m.
Fresh off their first Patriot League victory of the season, the Black Knights will look to build some momentum as they face an American squad ranked fifth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Northeast Region poll.
Army came away with its first come-from-behind victory of the year with a 3-2 win over Lehigh on Oct. 11. Senior Cody Guerry scored a pair of goals in the win, including the game winner in the 89th minute. Guerry, who also scored during a 1-1 draw at Holy Cross last week, earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week praise.
American owns a 10-3-3 advantage in its all-time series against Army, but the Black Knights are 1-0-2 against the Eagles in the last two seasons. Army earned a 2-1 win in overtime at Clinton Field in 2013 before the teams played to the pair of 0-0 draws in Washington, D.C., last season. The second tie came in the Patriot League quarterfinals, with the Black Knights advancing, 4-3, on penalty kicks.
